“A Delight to Read”

Mary Natale’s charming and well-written children’s book, Tumbleweed, the Fairy Without Wings, is a delight! I recently read it to my Kindergarten class, and they were captivated by the rhythm and images of the words, the engaging story, and the lovely illustrations. In a time when diverging opinions are pulling people apart, the hopeful message of accepting differences in ourselves and others gives hope for a more peaceful and dynamic future. The story gently conveys that diversity opens new possibilities for growth by celebrating each other’s unique attributes and ways of being in the world.

“Must Read”

Settle in and enjoy this nightly reader with milk, cookies, and squeals of delight.

The story begins with two fairies, Tumbleweed and Primrose, escorting a new batch of root children on a hike through the woods. Tumbleweed has fun hair and big ears, Primrose has wings. The journey takes them into the roots of an old oak tree, down through passages illuminated by fireflies, to the bright warm hearth of Mother Earth. It was time to put root children to bed for the winter……..

The illustrations by Juli Litkei are an absolute treat…Every page is filled with fun, earthy images that bring the heart of the story to life and reveal the creativity and imagination for author and artist. For a moment, you might even think they accidentally left a blank space on the back cover, but fear not, that is simply a placeholder for a prestigious award-winning seal that will surely follow.

In summary of Mary Natale’s 2024 book, Tumbleweed, the Fairy Without Wings, I give this five out of five stars (5 of 5). If the measure of a picture book is the ability to enthrall young readers and draw them back again and again, you will share many cherished moments exploring the fairy world together.
